10 Uses For Printable Candy Cane Templates

Here are 10 inexpensive, fun, and creative craft ideas you can do with your completed coloring page!

10. Christmas Card Embellishments

My candy cane templates are perfect for the DIY Christmas card maker, as they can be decorated however you want.

For example, if you’re using a blank candy cane, you could draw in the stripes and fill them in different colors than red and white – pink and green or purple and black.

You could take glitter pens to the templates or fill in the lines with construction paper cut down into stripes.

Then you can paste the candy cane to the front of the card and write your greeting.

9. Christmas Party Decorations

If you’re hosting a Christmas party, you’re paying for the food and the drinks – you don’t want to pay an arm and leg for decorations.

You can use my candy cane templates as inexpensive decorations around your house or office when you want to make a big impact at a small price.

Dress them up with ribbons tied into bows or leave them plain and simple, colored in red and white.

They’ll make great wall hangings, strung together as bunting or as part of your place settings.

8. Classroom Activities

There are so many ways you can incorporate candy canes into your classroom activities.

For example, you could print out multiples, put them in a jar and have your students guess how many there are. The person with the closest answer, without going over, wins a prize!

You could also use each stripe for a different math problem, with the problems getting more difficult as you go up the candy cane.

Finally, did you know that two candy canes together create a heart?

You can have your students color in, cut out, and paste them together onto a piece of construction paper, then cut out a picture of themselves and paste it in the middle.

Makes a sweet holiday gift for their parents!

7. Christmas Wreaths

If you like the idea of a candy cane wreath but you don’t want to use actual candy canes – they can attract insects, after all – you could use my templates.

You could print them onto shrink sheets, color them with markers, and then bake them. They’ll shrink to about half their original size.

Once they’ve cooled, you can hot glue them to the wreath without worrying about attracting pests.

6. Gift Bag Embellishments

In the same fashion as decorating a greeting card, you can embellish a gift bag with candy canes.

There is something so heartfelt about hand-decorating a gift bag before giving it to your recipient.

To add an extra lively touch to the bag, you can take a small rectangle of paper and fold it, accordion style, two or three times before you attach the candy cane.

Then paste one side to the candy cane and the other onto the bag.

This gives the candy cane a 3D effect.

5. Party Activities

When you’re hosting a family-friendly Christmas party, you’ll want to keep the kids occupied (for a little bit, at least).

You can do this by setting up a table with my candy cane templates, markers, glue, ribbon, construction paper, sequins, glitter – anything for kids to design their own candy cane.

You could also print out a large template, hang it on the wall and make a few bows out of ribbons.

Then blindfold the kids, have them spin around, and attempt to place the bow on the candy cane.

4. Christmas Tree Ornaments

There are two ways you can use my candy canes to make Christmas tree ornaments.

First, you can simply keep them as paper, lovingly colored in and decorated by your kids, and hang them with the cane crook.

Second, you can print them onto shrink sheets, have your kids color them in with markers, and bake them.

Once they’re cool, you can again hang them by the crook of the candy cane.

3. Stapled Candy Cane Puffs

You can use my candy cane templates to create this adorable craft that, when completed, can be used as decoration in your home (or you can take it to your office!).

You’ll need two of the same template, cut out and decorated however you like.

Then you will start stapling the two pieces together along the edges.

When you’re halfway up the candy cane, you will stuff tissues inside. Continue to staple and stuff until you have closed up the candy cane.

2. Doorknob Hangers

You can also use my candy cane templates to make personalized holiday door hangers.

Using a large template, print it out onto white cardstock. You’ll color it red, and then you can decorate it however you want.

If you use it for bedrooms, you could also write your kids’ names in the stripes.

Cut it out, and you can use the crook of the candy can to hang it on the doorknob.

1. Wrapping Paper

Create your own wrapping paper using my candy canes.

You can select the candy canes of your choice and copy and paste them onto a word processor document or illustrator document.

Modify which direction the candy canes face, color them digitally, and create a pattern by copying, pasting, and dragging the illustrations around the page.

Then you can print it off and have wrapping paper for a small box or other item.
