C is for Cookie

Who doesn’t love a good cookie? And while there are countless varieties of cookies to choose from, nothing quite compares to the sheer size of the biggest cookie ever made. The enormous confection was created in Flat Rock, North Carolina in 2003 and weighed in at a staggering 40,000 pounds.

That’s equivalent to the weight of about 6 elephants! The cookie was just over 100 feet wide, which is longer than the length of a basketball court, and required over 10,000 pounds of cookie dough, 9,000 pounds of chocolate chips, and 4,000 pounds of brown sugar to make.

While the thought of such a colossal cookie might seem overwhelming, it’s worth noting that baking massive treats is actually a time-honored tradition in many places around the world. For instance, in Norway, bakers often make enormous gingerbread houses during the holiday season.

And in Japan, chefs sometimes create enormous mochi, a sweet rice cake, that can weigh several hundred pounds.

But back to the cookie. It’s worth noting that, despite its impressive size, the giant chocolate chip cookie was actually made in a standard oven. To accomplish this feat, the bakers carefully crafted the dough and chocolate chips into 40 individual sections, each of which weighed around 1,000 pounds.

These sections were then baked one at a time and pieced together to create the final product.

Of course, creating a cookie that big wasn’t just about the size — it was also about the taste. Fortunately, the bakers behind the record-breaking cookie didn’t disappoint.

According to reports, the giant chocolate chip cookie was as delicious as it was massive, with a perfectly crispy exterior and a soft, gooey interior that was packed with plenty of chocolate chips.

While it’s unlikely that you’ll ever get to taste a cookie quite as big as the one made in Flat Rock, North Carolina, there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the classic combination of chocolate chips and cookie dough.

Whether you’re baking them at home or picking up a batch from your local bakery, there’s no denying that chocolate chip cookies are a beloved treat that never goes out of style.
