Life in Bloom – by Tabby B.
Hey Siri, what’s the weather like today?
You probably wake up in the morning and check the weather forecast before heading out for the day. Before the days of smartphones and, well, even just the weatherman, there were other ways people used to predict the weather. If birds are flying high in the sky, it will be fair, but low-flying birds means rain. Count how many times a cricket chirps in 14 seconds and then add 40 to that number, that’s a good estimate of what the temperature is (in Fahrenheit). The leaves on trees turn over when a storm is coming. Neat, huh?
