First Engagement
Mary of Burgundy has the distinction of being the first woman (in recorded history) to receive a diamond engagement ring. The Archduke Maximilian Eugen of Austria presented her with the ring after she chose him to be her co-ruler. They were married on August 16, 1477. Queen Elizabeth II is a descendant of the couple.
