10 Craft Ideas To Do With Science Coloring Pages
Science is the favorite subject of many youngsters.
If your little scientist has finished lots of coloring pages on this theme, here are some great crafts to put the pages to good use.
1. Elements of Nature
To make this simple science-related craft, give the youngster a paper plate on which to draw two lines with a magic marker, dividing it into four quarters.
Then, cutouts from the various science coloring pages can be used to decorate each quarter.
For example, if the child has chosen elements as the theme, cutouts from a science page depicting the four elements are ideal.
Place one in each section, and decorate the circumference with pom-poms, craft gems, or freestyle art done with colored pencils.
2. Test Tube Fun
For this cute craft, give each child a plastic “test tube” found at any novelty store and have the youngsters laminate them, decal-style, with cutouts from finished coloring pages.
Then, fill the bottom half of the test tube with aquarium sand, craft gems, or even tiny stones collected from outdoors.
Tuck orange or red tissue paper at the opening of the “test tube,” making sure the tufts stick up straight to make it look like the tube contains a bubbling mixture!
3. Make a Cute Anemometer Ornament
For this innovative craft, give each youngster four Dixie cups and two long straws. The Dixie cups should be laminated with cutouts from the finished coloring pages.
The children can cut the pages into strips or cut out individual items, gluing a single one to each cup.
Next, using string or tape, make an “X” from the straws and attach the Dixie cups to form the anemometer.
Finally, attach a long craft stick to the center of the straw cross, with glue or twine, anchoring the other end into the styrofoam base. Display this cute ornament anywhere.
4. A Colorful Atomic Science Logo Necklace
Start this fun craft by having the youngsters color a page featuring the atomic science logo, laminate it to thin cardboard, and carefully cut it out.
The children can have fun decorating it with glitter, craft gems, puffy paint, or anything to make it pop!
Seal it in glassine or contact paper, punch a hole at the top for a piece of yarn or colorful embroidery thread, and the youngsters can sport one-of-a-kind necklaces.
5. Fun With Telescopes
Telescopes are a fascinating scientific tool, and youngsters love playing with them. So, begin this fun craft by giving each child an empty wrapping paper cardboard.
These can be trimmed down to any size the youngster desires. Then, at one end, glue an empty bathroom tissue cardboard just inside the opening as the “lens.”
Have the children laminate their toy telescopes with cutouts from the finished coloring pages for fun toys they can play with anywhere!
6. Repurpose an Old Desk
If your little scientists have an old desk that you don’t want to repaint, why not let them decorate it with science-themed decals?
Begin by having the youngster cut out the various items and symbols from the different pages, which can then be arranged in a science-focused pattern.
When finished, glue them to the top of the desk with carpenter glue, seal the work with acrylic spray, and enjoy the art whenever the youngster uses the desk.
7. Make a Personalized Sign
A coloring page featuring a scientist with a test tube is perfect for this craft.
Once the child has colored the character, the page should be glued to the left side of a piece of posterboard.
On the right side, a fat magic marker or puffy paint should be used to write, “Quiet, Scientist at Work.”
This design is perfect for a bedroom door when the youngster does not want to be disturbed!
8. Lightbulb Moment
This fun classroom activity is a big hit with all youngsters and begins by having each child trace and cut out a light bulb from an ordinary piece of posterboard.
Next, when each youngster has finished a science coloring page, cutouts from the page should be used to decorate the bulb.
These can be strung together in the classroom to create a colorful and unique banner that will brighten up the room.
9. Homemade Lab Glasses
Scientists are often seen wearing goggles or lab glasses, so why not make some out of the finished coloring pages?
Have each youngster trace the type of glasses or goggles he or she wants to “wear” and cut them from the finished coloring page.
Reinforce them with pipe cleaners, and add two long pipe cleaners to the sides so that they can be worn.
These silly glasses make a great photo opportunity!
10. Mortar and Pestle
For this fun craft, give each child an ordinary plastic bowl and spoon.
A cotton ball should be glued into the spoon and wrapped in a layer of tissue paper. Then, both the bowl and spoon should be decorated with pieces of the coloring pages.
When the spoon is balanced inside the bowl, it will look like an old-fashioned mortar and pestle and can be displayed anywhere for a touch of scientific decor.
