Starlight Delight – by Varda K.
Why do monks destroy their mandalas?
Monks spend days or weeks creating mandalas with sand. Painstakingly dropping colored sand to form geometric patterns in a repeating pattern. Once they’re done, they prey over it and then sweep the sand away. Sometimes they give the sand away in handfuls, but usually it’s swept into a stream. It’s a reminder that life is always in flux, beautiful and impermanent, and to appreciate the moment.
