Tribal Shield Mandala

Tribal Shield – by Lois S.

Symbolic Armor

Shields are more than tools used to protect from danger. Quite often they’re decorated with symbolism to show alignment with a particular culture or spirituality. For example, Plains Indians in North America would decorate their shields with symbols to protect them during battle. Warriors on horses had larger shields that weren’t practical for foot-warriors, but they would carry the same types of symbols.
