Shortage in Colored Pencils

Coloring is all the rage these days, isn’t it? There’s a myriad of reasons why it has taken off to become a huge sensation — it’s relaxing, it gives you a chance to unplug from the digital world, it’s fun, it’s a mini-retreat to your younger days, the list goes on and on.

I’m sure you’ve seen the news about how popular coloring has become, and now coloring books are top sellers everywhere. Even some of the pubs in my area are starting to host coloring nights!

The next link in the chain to be affected by supply in demand are the coloring supplies companies. Coloring pencil suppliers are now reporting that they’re not able to keep up with the demand. Normally they’d be able to predict a certain amount of sales per year and scale their production based on that, but now they’re struggling to meet the demands. Faber-Castell is the largest wood pencil manufacturer and it’s raising production.

People don’t just want a basic set of colors, either, they want more shades and hues. The really good pencils aren’t cheap. There’s a set of 120 for only $580, but it comes in a beautiful wood case. I predict now we’ll have limited edition collections and colors coming out, too. 🙂

I personally prefer Prismacolor markers, but don’t tell anyone because they’re already expensive!
