10 Craft Ideas To Do With Winter Coloring Pages
If winter scenes are what your child enjoys coloring, try these inexpensive, fun craft activities to put those pages to good use.
1. A Snowy Winter Cabin
Using a coloring page with a snowy winter cabin scene, help the child glue the finished coloring page onto a white or yellow background.
Before you do this, though, have the youngster cut out the windows and cut the door on three sides so that it can “open.”
Your child can trace and cut out animals or people and place them in the windows. A gingerbread man is perfect for the doorway.
Use cotton to enhance the chimney smoke and glitter to embellish the snowflakes for a magical winter scene.
2. Make a Beautiful Mosaic Snowflake
To make a beautiful, decorative snowflake to use as a Christmas ornament or just for winter fun, begin with a fancy or simple snowflake coloring page.
Using tufts of light blue, dark blue, and white construction paper, have the youngster cut tiny squares and fill in the snowflake’s center.
Sequins can be used to make the points extra fancy, and a hook to hang up the ornament is easily made from a colorful pipe cleaner.
3. Design a Homemade Mud Mat
Choose a coloring page with big winter boots, and have your youngsters color the footwear in bright, primary shades, such as red, blue, or yellow.
For extra fun, the children can write “Susie’s Boots” or “Jimmy’s Boots” with a permanent marker, one word in each boot.
Use craft glue to affix the coloring pages to an ordinary, inexpensive welcome mat.
Seal it with several coats of acrylic spray, and you have an adorable homemade mud mat that your youngsters might actually use!
4. Circle of Snowflakes
Begin this easy craft with a simple, flat craft ring, and have the youngsters color snowflakes in wintry shades like silver, white, and blue.
Once they are colored and cut out, they should be glued to the circle, following a pattern with the different colors.
For extra fun, the youngsters can add fun items to the center of the snowflakes, such as wrapped peppermints, buttons, or craft gems.
Tie a shiny ribbon at the top, and hang this adorable circle of snowflakes on the front door.
5. Laminate a Mug With a Mug
This innovative craft is lots of fun for all youngsters and begins with coloring a page featuring a mug of hot chocolate.
The mug and the surrounding decorations should be colored, cut out, and used to decorate an ordinary, plain mug from a discount store.
The child’s name is written in permanent marker, and a few coats of acrylic spray will preserve the most colorful mug in the cupboard.
6. An Engaging Classroom Activity
Begin this interesting classroom activity by having the children color gingerbread house pages. These should be left in their entirety.
Next, using old pieces of cardboard and empty boxes, let the youngsters fashion a “gingerbread house.” It doesn’t have to be traditionally shaped; let them get creative.
The gingerbread house can then be laminated with the finished coloring pages for a great collective work of art.
If it’s big enough, the youngsters may actually be able to crawl inside!
7. Winter Bear Calendar Page
For a motivational craft, give the children rulers and blank paper on which to draw calendar pages. Have them write simple goals for a handful of days using colorful markers.
Next, give the children posterboards turned vertically and have them glue their calendars to the bottom half.
Then, let each youngster color and embellish a winter bear coloring page.
A ribbon added to his scarf, pink pom-poms to embellish his ears, and funny little wiggle eyes are great choices too. The children can enjoy checking off their goals that month!
8. Penguins Take a Sleigh Ride
For this fun craft, give the youngsters coloring pages featuring penguins on a sleigh ride.
When they’re finished, the Penguins should be cut out and reinforced with thin cardboard, after which popsicle sticks can be glued to the back sides.
The remainder of the coloring page should also be reinforced with cardboard and a slit cut diagonally along the sleigh’s path.
The children can then push their penguin cutouts up through the slit and move the sleigh down along the hill to make this page come to life.
9. Snowball Fun
A coloring page featuring a youngster winding up to throw snowballs can turn into a fun game of darts.
Once the page is colored, invisible glue should be used to affix it to a thin piece of corkboard.
The youngsters can play a game of darts by trying to land the dart on one of the snowballs, either in the air, on the ground, or the impossible: the one in the child’s hand!
As long as you don’t stand too far away, this game is loads of fun.
10. Home, Sweet, Igloo
This engaging craft is limited only by the child’s imagination. Give the youngster an igloo coloring page, but cut the igloo on three sides so that it can “open.”
Have the youngster draw a scene that fits within the igloo on a separate piece of paper.
When the coloring page is finished, position it over the scene so that when it’s folded back, the scene behind comes to life!
